This presents HIM as the only form of spiritual truth and source of eternal existence.
In another verse, Matthew 5:14 Jesus also said, “You are the light of the world.”
He also compared His followers to light, meaning they are the outer representation of God’s Presence and the inward dwelling of the Holy Spirit.
To be the light of the world, is to reflect God’s love and guidance.
A heart full of wickedness, envy, murder, malice, gossips, rivalry and selfish competition etc. can’t be the light of the world.
It isn’t what we believe that makes us the light, it’s what we do, the practical life we live.
To be the light of the world isn’t a thing of the mouth and confession only, it’s a thing of action in a manner the world sees it and glorifies Our Father in Heaven, this is Jesus approach of the light, it must shine, people must see it, it can’t be covered, no one can cover the light.
People don’t need to ask questions about the light in you, even from a distance they see it glow.
The light guides the soul safely through the valley of sin, and the struggles of life, the light doesn’t only show itself the path, everything around it also benefits from its glow.
The light is contagious, it spreads even infecting people who aren’t aware of it, is it possible to be the light of the world and people around you are still in different degrees of darkness? Wherever the light goeth, darkness gives way.
Adam glowed until disobedience suppressed his light and darkness took over; darkness took over and ushered in its dark friend, death.
There’s no better way to shine if not love your neighbor the same way you love yourself, why is the summary always bent on love your neighbor? Because it takes a pure heart to love another.
There are some practical evidences which reveal if one is the son of Light, they are features like:
love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
