Sin
Is There Any Sin That Can’t Be Forgiven?
God forgives all sins, including sin against His Holy Spirit, but one needs to acknowledge the sin and repent genuinely, these actions usher in mercy.
Jesus says that ALL manner of sin will be forgiven, only when people blaspheme God’s Holy Spirit and call the work of God evil, that will not be forgiven. Attributing the saving and delivering work of God to evil – Mark 3:22–30.
From the above verse, it’s clear sin against the Holy Spirit can’t be forgiven, but I come to you, do you think sin against the Holy Spirit can’t be forgiven?
There are many ways people blaspheme God’s Holy Spirit, you hear people use such words like scam to describe the work of God, some even call Jesus scam, they make mockery of miracle, and activities of God, they’ve different words in their mouths against the work of God, all these and more are direct sin against the Holy Spirit.
It’s clear such sins against the Holy Spirit can’t be forgiven, but I still ask, is there any sin that can’t be forgiven? Including sin against God’s Holy Spirit, do you think it can be forgiven?
To answer this, we’ve to use two events from the Bible as a case study, as it were with Paul, Ananias and Sapphira.
In Acts 5, Ananias and Sapphira sinned against the Holy Spirit and were killed, Paul sinned against the Holy Spirit but was pardoned.
How do we approach this, one forgiven and the other killed for the same offence.
Paul (former Pharisee) was blaspheming the way of Jesus Christ, believing it was evil, but God had mercy on him, in his ignorance.
To approach this we go to 1 Timothy 1:13, “Even though I was formerly a blasphemer, persecutor, and violent aggressor. Yet I was shown mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief”.
Paul acknowledged he sinned against the Holy Spirit, he acknowledged he was shown mercy, and he acknowledged he acted in unbelief.
There are two things here:
1. Mercy
2. Genuine repentance
Even when someone sins against the Holy Spirit, forgiveness is still very much possible based on the two conditions stated above.
The Holy Spirit gave Ananias and his wife a chance to repent but they continued lying.
Paul was given a chance and he repented instantly.
The way it’s is this, sin against the Holy Spirit can be forgiven based on two conditions, mercy and genuine repentance.
God forgives all sins, including sin against His Holy Spirit, but one needs to acknowledge the sin and repent genuinely, these actions usher in mercy.
Mercy stops the move of God’s anger, if Paul didn’t repent when he had the chance what happened to Ananias would have happened to him.
If we look at it the way we should, Paul committed the most offence than Ananias but he was forgiven, Paul’s hands were stained in blood of the Ministers of God, which was a direct sin against the Holy Spirit.
All sins can be forgiven even sins against the Holy Spirit ONLY if there’s genuine repentance, we can see that in the life of Paul.
Even if one previously spoke evil of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit if they repent and accept the Gospel there’s still hope and salvation for them.
Forgiveness of sin is based on the willingness to acknowledge the sin and repent, it doesn’t matter how huge the offence is.
At times you hear people say, “I don’t know if God can forgive me” when they look at it, they feel it’s too much for God to forgive, but what God demands is genuine repentance, not you walking around the offence thinking if He will forgive you or not.
Check all the people Paul unjustly murdered and imprisoned, wives became widows, husbands became widowers, mothers and fathers became childless in the hand of Paul, he was a terror to the Christians when he was a Pharisee, all these were sins against the Holy Spirit, God forgave him because he repented genuinely.
This is the difference as it pertains to forgiveness of sins, some people are Paul, while some people are Ananias.
Every Paul shall obtain mercy and forgiveness, it doesn’t matter the nature of the sin, even if it’s sin against the Holy Spirit, it can be forgiven, what God expects is genuine repentance, nothing else.
You go to the church and the Pastor is saying things you don’t like, just pick your Bible and go home, don’t murmur in the Presence of God, it’s a sin against the Holy Spirit.
What’s a sin against the Holy Spirit? Any word you say which opposes the work of God, and anything you do which makes a mockery of the activities of God.
