The Discipline Of Saying Few Words
The discipline of saying few words is a part of the spiritual journey, God doesn’t reveal everything as needed to people with too many words, as in the case of Prophet Isaiah.
And Pilate asked Jesus, Art Thou the King of the Jews? He answered him, “Thou sayest it” The chief priests accused Him of too many things, but He said nothing.
There is a time to keep quiet.
There is a time to say few words.
And there is a time to speak.
Jesus was a man of few words; He spoke much in parables, and all the men God worked with were men of few words.
Abraham, Moses, David, Elijah, Solomon, Paul, etc. were men of few words.
After 40 days and 40 nights up the mountain with Moses, Moses received just a few lines of 10 words from God; which became the commandments.
God doesn’t delight in a talkative, the Bible refers to too many words as vain words, because in too many words you will discover vain words that ought not to be said.

You’ll hear from God as supposed when you learn the discipline of saying few words, there are moments when things heard or seen are rather kept secret for an appointed time, but talkative don’t understand seasons, they say everything without control or thinking.
That year at Awka in Anambra State, Nigeria, my Pastor shared with us a part of his spiritual journey after graduating from the Bible school, he was a man of too many words, that was his nature, he talked a lot, so God sent him to another pastor, in a land far away from home to learn the discipline of using few words, so that He can reveal Himself to him as supposed.
When he arrived at the house of the Pastor, he mouth folded him with a fabric, he only opened it when he wanted to serve him food in the morning, he spent weeks without saying a word, at the completion of that spiritual training, he become a man of few words, his tongue was restricted beyond his control that he could only say few necessary words, that training marked a new level of spiritual exposure.
They arrested Him, tortured Him, asked many questions, He said nothing.
He kept quiet for the right reason, the CROSS.
Can you learn to keep quiet or say few words at times?
Fasting isn’t only when you avoid food and drink, fasting includes many self-disciplinary decisions towards attaining higher spiritual perfection, one of which I just shared with you, saying few word is part of it.
Because He said few words that was why the crucifixion worked, if he had opened up to tell them everything about Him, or performed a miracle they wouldn’t have killed Him, en effect His mission would have been truncated, so there are times you need just few words to accomplish your assignment.
God didn’t create the Universe with too many words, He called everything forth into existence with just one word “Shamat!” which translates in English as LET.
Be a man of few words, if you aren’t a man of few words, learn it, train your tongue to always say a few necessary things at the right time for the right reason, I understand, it’s a difficult thing to do, that’s why I called it a journey.
