The Top Is At The Bottom
When Jonathan was the heir to the Throne of Israel David his friend was a shepherd nomadic boy in the bush, he lifted him up out of the bush, gave him a princely care and roof in the house of his father, King Saul.
When you’re at the top you have multitude of friends, but when you are at the bottom you’ve fewer friends.
Your true friends are the ones who were with you when you were at the bottom of les misérables, not the ones you met at the top, if the wind of life in its ever uncertainty blows and you fall from that top, none of the friends you met up there will descend with you, it will still be those people at the bottom that will console you.
Do you think any of your friends at the top will descend low with you when you drop down? Only the fools think yes because they can’t reason.
No matter how fast you fly, even the fastest jet drops down to the bottom, how much more you, what speed do you have, what strength do you have to withstand the gravity of life?
When you get to the top, remember you won’t stay there forever, no one ever did, remember those true friends at the bottom, help them to get to the top, so that when that inevitable time comes and you drop down they will gladly lift you back up.
The friends you met at the top are never true friends, there are objects of serendipity, a chance out of luck.
When Jonathan was the heir to the Throne of Israel David his friend was a shepherd nomadic boy in the bush, he lifted him up out of the bush, gave him a princely care and roof in the house of his father, King Saul.
One day he said to David, I know some day you’ll be the King of Israel, remember me, remember my family.
Few years later, Jonathan was killed in the battle, David mourned him heavily, he composed a Psalm for him.
Hardly will any of your friends at the top mourn you when you’re gone, but the ones at the bottom knows the worth of friendship, it isn’t measured by what one has or not, nor weighed based on where one is or not.
When David became the King, his friend at the top when he was in the forest had fallen in the battle field, all that time Jonathan had only an heir left, a cripple, Mephiboshet.
He wasn’t born cripple, it was due to hard circumstances of his grand father’s disobedience, King Saul.
Crippled don’t dine with the King, it’s forbidden, but due to the love his father showed him when he was at the bottom in the bush of life, David sent for a search for any remnant of Jonathan, and Mephiboshet was found, the law was changed without decree or words because of the kindness of Jonathan who David loved like a life, how did Jonathan earn this place in Davids heart? Kindness.
Can you be kind today to people at the bottom? God won’t reward you because you shew kindness to people at top with you, in your heart you did it for selfish reasons.
A cripple sat with the King, it was an honour greater than his life, from Lodebar, the land of curse and dearth where cripple and people infected with leprosy were dumped, from there to the King’s table, the great King David.
Because of his father’s kindness, being kind to people at the top earns no reward, but being kind to people at the bottom phase of life earns an unforgettable reward.
When my Dad was at the top in the office of the Presidency, in the State House Annex index, SSS, at that top, he gave many strangers jobs in the banks, Navy, Customs etc, his signature and name was a direct employment, some he sent to study law, it was a time when there was no telecommunication, some years after, he was sabotaged during the IBB coup for being a hindrance to the plot, given compulsory retirement, with no pension or gratuity after years of service, he faced it, no way to reach him, no means of communication, they had all gone up, they weren’t aware of his predicament till he passed away 2011, but in a way nature remembers even his children-children-children.
I speak in the name of all wisdom, be kind to people at the bottom, you won’t be at the top forever, some day, you’ll give way, and the people at the bottom will occupy that space, what about your family, do you think your investments and savings in the bank can sustain them? Only fools think this way, was Saul not the King, what happened to his lineage? What was the King’s grand child doing at Lodebar, be kind to the people at the bottom, gravity is real, you won’t stay there forever.
Will people say to your family, “Your father was a good man, I won’t forget his kindness” this one phrase, this one visit always changes everything.
When you were at the top, did you lift anyone to yourself from the bottom? Jonathan lifted David, and David lifted his son Mephiboshet, will anyone lift you? Will anyone lift your family when you’re gone? If you lifted no one, know it when you drop from that top no one shall lift you and when you are gone your generation shall remain at L o d i b a r.
The top is at the bottom, nothing remains at the top forever, be a Jonathan to the Davids of life and let every lifted David remember Mephiboshets.
